Pokey Twig lives in Portland, Oregon. He has been writing and recording original songs on guitar and piano for more than a decade. He has been influenced by many artists including: Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, Johnny Cash, John Denver, Joni Mitchell, Indigo Girls, They Might Be Giants, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, George Harrison, Peter Gabriel, and Dr. Seuss to name a few.
Growing up in rural Illinois, Pokey could realistically conceive, how during the harsh winters, Joni Mitchell could in fact, find a frozen “river to skate away on.” Sandwich was a small town and John Mellencamp certainly captured the flavor of that youthful experience. When Prince wrote about “old man Johnson’s farm” in “Raspberry Beret” Pokey could feel the hot summer air and the straw dust that hung in the sunlight of the shifting barn and the denim worn to threads from bales of hay. On long, snowy car rides to Wisconsin, The Beach Boys beamed from the 8-track and their “Endless Summer” melted the monotony of the night. Mowing at the cemetery was almost enrapturing with George Harrison’s “Blow Away” as the soundtrack.
The first 45 vinyl record he bought was “Only The Good Die Young” by Billy Joel. The first rock concert he saw was The B-52’s. Some other concerts were: The Ramones, Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Circle Jerks, The Replacements, REM, The Psychedelic Furs, X, Adam Ant, James Taylor, Leontyne Price, Bjork, Polyphonic Spree, and many others.
